So the last FOX fight card of the year ended with a bang… er lets find a better word… It ended with a bird, that’s it! The last FOX card of the year ended with a big fat bird! Lightweight Challenger Nate Diaz spent 5 rounds being pretty much outclassed by the seemingly bigger Benson Henderson. Henderson was able to use his power leg kicks to keep Diaz at bay. After 5 full rounds the belt did not exchange hands and just like Diaz said before the fight. If it goes to a decision Henderson wins, and it went as Diaz predicted.
In the 2 fights before Henderson vs. Diaz main event, we had a case of former UFC champions and future Hall of Famers in BJ Penn and Shogun Rua, taking on the next crop of young UFC raising stars in Rory MacDonald and Alexander Gustafsson and both fights ended the same way. Both fights were entertaining and interesting showcasing some of what made both Penn and Rua great but, had the new guys in MacDonald and Gustafsson blowing past both the former greats with ease and both young guns coasting home with the easy win.
Opening the main card were a couple of scrappy Welterweight vets in Matt Brown and Mike Swick. Round 1 was compete with multiple submission attempts and both men turning themselves in to human pretzels, while round 2 was a little more of the same but, Brown was able to land a very good combo that turned Swicks lights out for good.
