UFC 155 FX recap

By Josh Reese

The FX portion of UFC 155 opened up with Lightweight action back to back, 1st up were Myles Jury and Michael Johnson it was also a fight between season 15 of TUF and season 12. Jury the undefeated prospect was seemingly thrown to the wolves facing Johnson and had many people questioning the Matchmaking. Jury instead showed doubters and beat Johnson to the tune of a unanimous 30-27 decision. In the 2nd half of the back to back Lightweight action featured 2 grizzled vets of the sport in former WEC champion Jamie Varner and Melvin Guillard, and after 3 rounds of good back in forth and a closing burst in the final seconds from Guillard it was not enough the win even one round as Varner pulled the clean sweep 30-27 decision.

After the Double Lightweight action we also had back to back Bantamweight fights to close out the card, 1st up were Erik Perez and Byron Bloodworth, the fight opened up with both guys swinging away. Perez was clearly looking for a 2nd record breaking fight, but instead had to settle just for a finish stopping Bloodworth in the 1st round in just under 4mins giving Perez 3 straight 1st round finishes since being in the UFC and his 8 win in a row. Closing out the FX portion was one of Dana White’s favorite fighters Brad Pickett who took on Eddie Wineland, the fight featured really technically sound stand up and after 3 rounds Wineland emerged the victor via a split decision win. Wineland is now in line for a number one contenders bout very soon…
