The Fight That Matters

By Josh Reese

In this edition of The Fight That Matters, is a fairly easy choice Mike Chiesa (7-0) v Al Iaquinta (5-1-1) for the first ever season of The Ultimate Fighter Live. Head coaches were Dominic Cruz and Urijah Faber, Team Faber was able to get two of his picks in to the finals. The winner will get a contract in to the UFC, along with other prizes and goodies.

Chiesa came in to the house undefeated, and then went on and won 4 fights in a row. Three of those fights came after his dad passed away. Chiesa is not the most polished fight standing up, but he can take a punch and if he is able to get you to the ground that is were he makes his bread and butter. 5 submissions plus a 6th if you count is submission of Johnavan Vistante to get in to the house.

Iaquinta rolled in to the house the opposite way, losing his first fight in his career to a UFC veteran Pat Audinwood. That loss did not affect Iaquinta to negatively as he impressed Faber so well he became Team Faber’s first pick. Iaquinta comes from the famed Serra-Longo Fight Team that trains lots of elite fighters. Iaquinta is the more well rounded fighter with 3 knock outs to his credit, he needs to keep this fight standing to have the advantage against Chiesa.

A classic east coast/ west coast battle that should live up to its billing, with each guy striving for the one guaranteed contact, and will for ever be known as the first TUF live winner.
