Thiago Silva (14-2 MMA, 5-2 UFC) and Brandon Vera (12-5 MMA, 8-5 UFC), who originally fought at UFC 125, will now meet in a rematch on May 15th in Fairfax, Virginia. The card is expected to take place in The Patriot Center but as of this moment, the venue nor where the fight will broadcast from has been announced. However, the UFC announced this fight anyhow.
Reason for the rematch? When these two first met at UFC 125, Thiago Silva dominated Vera throughout the entire fight. However, that would not be the last piece of news concerning this bout. Thiago Silva was then scheduled to face “Rampage” Jackson at UFC 130 but that fight was scratched when the UFC 125 drug testing results were released.
In March of 2011, Silva was served with a formal NSAC complaint after two urinalysis test’s revealed a substance that was “inconsistent with human urine,” which indicated that he “submitted an adulterated and/or substituted specimen for testing for the urinalysis.” Silva’s first test was flagged, which prompted further testing by the Sports Medicine Research and Testing Laboratory, which is accredited by the World Anti-Doping Agency.
Silva had admitted to what he had done.
Silva was fined $13,750 of his $55,000 show purse and $20,000 of his $55,000 win purse which totals $33,750.
Vera was released from the UFC following that fight but was brought back into the company when it was found out that Silva has failed his drug test.
