The 1st UK card of the year now has a headliner, Stipe Miocic v Stefan Struve are official as the UFC on FUEL TV 5 headliner. The event will take place on September 29, 2012 at the Capital FM Arena in Nottingham, England. The bouts will more then likely be split between Facebook for the prelims and Fuel TV for the main card. As of now the card also has Yves Jabouin v Brad Pickett (Bantamweight) and Akira Corassani v Andy Ogle (Featherweight) Ogle is also the last fighter from the most recent TUF and will get his 1st chance to be apart of a UFC card.
Miocic (9-0) owns a very solid chin and has a good all around game with a background in wrestling (D-1 college wrestling) and is a former golden gloves champ (boxing). He came in to the UFC on the strength of a 6-0 start to his career. Upon entering the UFC he decisioned Joey Beltran, ended Phil De Fries undefeated streak via KO, and then recently TKO’d Shane del Rosario another man with a undefeated streak. It was clear he needs a step up in competition.
Struve (24-5) unlike Miocic is a more know fighter and despite his huge size is more often then not the David and not the Goliath in his fights. Aside from hiccups against Junior dos Santos, Roy Nelson, and Travis Browne all which he lost to in the 1st round via a TKO or KO, he’d be the biggest name since Mike Tyson. Instead he has cleaned out all of the lower ranked fighters in the UFC. Struve is riding a 3 fight win streak with two submissions of the nights in those three fights. He got Pat Barry and Lavar Johnson to tap and then TKO’d Dave Herman.
