At this point nothing has been confirmed but it looks as though UFC 163 has gotten it’s second bout added. Demian Maia (18-4 MMA, 12-4 UFC) will look to remain unbeaten at welterweight when he takes on Josh Koscheck (17-7 MMA, 15-7 UFC).
Recently, Maia has stated that he would like to face Nick Diaz next looks like he will not get what he asked for. However, Josh Koscheck is still currently a top 10 ranked welterweight so beating Koscheck will certainly keep Maia relevant in future title talks. However with Rory MacDonald and Jake Ellenberger fighting at UFC on Fox 8 and both of them being ranked higher than Maia, that fight should have more title implications than Koscheck vs. Maia.
Koscheck who has now dropped two in a row will now have a face a very motivated Demian Maia who is 3-0 since moving to welterweight with wins over, Dong Hyun Kim, Rick Story and most recently and one sided unanimous decision victory over Jon Fitch. One would think that if Koscheck loses this fight, it may be either his last, or at least last within the UFC.
UFC 163 takes place on August 3rd, 2013 at the HSBC Arena in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil and is headlined by the highly anticipated featherweight title fight between champion Jose Aldo and challenger, Anthony Pettis.
