Nick Diaz Tests Positive For Marijuana

By: Mike Thorwart

Officially just announced by Keith Kizer of The Nevada State Athletic Commission, the rumors are true. Nick Diaz has tested positive for marijuana following his UFC 143 bout with Carlos Condit. He was the only competitor to test positive for any substance.

Diaz will end up having to go in front of the NSAC. At this time, Diaz’ camp has not commented on the situation.

The recent rematch talks between Diaz and Condit were recently shut down by Cesar Gracie who could not reveal more at the time. We now know why.

This is not the first time Diaz was suspended due to testing positive for marijuana by The Nevada State Athletic Commission. In 2007 his victory over Takanori Gomi was changed to a no contest when he tested positive for marijuana. He was suspended for 6 months and received a fine of $3,000.

Diaz does not hide his use of marijuana as he was interviewed by the L.A. Times and had this to say:

I’m more consistent about everything being a cannabis user,” “I’m happy to get loaded, hear some good music . . . I remain consistent … I can pass a drug test in eight days with herbal cleansers. I drink 10 pounds of water and sweat out 10 pounds of water every day. I’ll be fine.”

For those of us who personally know, or just have some common sense on the subject, there is no way that marijuana is a performance enhancing drug in the least bit however in 2009 Keith Kizer had this to say about marijuana:

The issue is not whether mairijuana is legal or not, or whether recreational use is positive or negative. The issue is whether you should be high as a kite when you fight.

“Obviously marijuana and alcohol can change your reflexes, slow them down, so you can get injured,” said Kizer. “Or it could numb the pain so you don’t realize you’re hurt. That’s why we don’t let fighters, for example, to have cortisone shots into their back or into their hand before they fight because they can not realize they’re hurt and they keep fighting and the next thing you know they’re permanently damaged.”

Please do not take this as true fact as to what is currently going on. These are only speculations that are currently going around. Please stay tuned to Fat Ninja Media as everything unfolds.
