Dominick Cruz v Urijah Faber will have to wait just a little bit longer… Cruz has suffered an ACL injury and will be out of there scheduled bout at UFC 148. Dana White confirmed on twitter that Cruz is out but stay tuned for news. Faber and Cruz have been coaching TUF live so it is unclear if the dynamic will change in the upcoming episodes.
UFC 148 was going to be the third meeting for the rivals, Faber pulling off the 1st win at Featherweight at WEC 26 via submission in the 1st round. They met again in the UFC, both now at Bantamweight at UFC 132 the fight was fight of the night honors with Cruz coming out the victor. Since the two last fought, both won their fights away from each other, this was going to be the rubber match for the belt in the Bantamweight division.
It is unclear what the UFC will do with Faber, they could pull him from the card or they could give Faber an opponent and let them slug it out for an interim belt. If the organization does go the interim way Faber has already stated Renan Barao (28-1-1NC) would make a great replacement for the now injured Cruz. Right now Barao is on track to fight Ivan Menjivar (24-8) on the same card UFC 148.
