Bellator 79 went off without a hitch and those in attendance at the Casino Rama in Canada got to enjoy a main card with 2 tournament semifinal fights, and now the Heavyweight and Featherweight have half the finals figured out. Next week the other half will be figured out when Wagnney Fabiano and Rad Martinez will square off in the semifinal Featherweight fight, while Vinicius Queiroz and Alexander Volkov will fight for the other final spot in the Heavyweight semifinal fight.
The main event fight between the 2 Heavyweights was an interesting bout, the smaller sized Hale looked to be over matched in start but if you are a Santos critic you were not shocked that midway through the 1st round it seemed like he kind of gave up and turtled up allowing Richard Hale to steal the Heavyweight final nod as he inches himself closer to the Heavyweight belt and a 100,000 dollars.
The co main event between Shahbulat Shamhalaev and Mike Richman featured two guys who got first round knockouts, in similar fashion this one ended the same way. Both guys came out feeling each other while traded shots, Shamhalaev landed a solid counter and dropped Richman after a cleanup punch on the ground it was over and Shamhalaev is in the finals.
Other guys picking up Bellator wins were Douglas Lima over Jacob Ortiz, in which Lima totally outclassed Ortiz and ended up being KO’d with 10 seconds left in the fight. Canadian Ryan Ford got the decision against Kyle Baker in an entertaining back and forth fight.
Next week Bellator will be in Florida with a Main event between Bantamweight Joe Warren and Owen Evinger, and also the last Heavyweight and Featherweight semifinal fights.
