Belfort vs Belcher UFC Rio 3

The UFC makes a return trip to RIO for the 2nd time this year and a 3rd time overall on October 13. The card will be headlined by hometown great Jose Aldo who will take on Erik Koch in a Featherweight Championship bout. Rio 3 will hold Quinton Jackson’s swan song while he meets Glover Teixeira in a Light Heavyweight showdown.

It was rumored that Wanderlei Silva and Vitor Belfort might square there bro-mance at this event but Belfort smartly called out Alan Belcher to avoid a no win fight against Silva. In a fight with Silva, Belfort would gain very little in beating him… By calling out Belcher he gets a top tier Middleweight and with a either fighter could be one more win away from fighting for the belt.

Belfort (21-9) is two fights removed from fighting Silva for the Middleweight Belt, since that stunning KO he suffered from the feet of Silva. He has since fought Yoshihiro Akiyama, and Anthony Johnson both fights ended in 1st round stoppages. Since coming down to Middleweight he is 4-1 with all fights ending in the 1st round.

Belcher (18-6) Like Belfort is a top Middleweight, and since his win over Rousimar Palhares he has been looking for one more top win, if he gets that win you could be looking at a future Anderson Silva opponent. He is the winner of a 4 fight win streak with all fights ending in a stoppage, he is an exciting fighter like Belfort and could be fireworks in October.

The UFC also added a Featherweight match of TUF v TUF Brazil. Brazillan Rony “Jason” Bezerra will meet American Sam Sicilia. Bezerra the winner of the TUF Brazil is meeting a Sicilia a heavy handed slugger who didn’t make it to the quarter-finals of TUF Live.
