June of 2012 is rumored to be what some fans are saying will be “the biggest rematch in UFC history.” That rematch is between current UFC Middleweight Champion, Anderson Silva (31-4 MMA, 14-0 MMA) and Chael Sonnen (27-11 MMA, 6-4 UFC).
The huge event is rumored to take place in Sao Paulo, Brazil in the Morumbi Stadium.
According to Anderson’s management team website Blackhouse Jorge Guimaraes has this to say in a recent interview with TATAME;
“It’s not set in stone. They still want it to happen in Sao Paulo. It was the last thing I’ve heard”, explains Jorge, revealing that they keep negotiating at all costs. “They are waiting for an injunction from Morumbi, I heard they would send a letter but haven’t done it yet”.
Waiting for some definition, the manager claims to root for it to happen in Sao Paulo.
“This fight is so Sao Paulo, let’s do it until the end. They thought about Rio, but it would have to be in Sao Paulo. They did two events in Rio and now it’s time for Sao Paulo. Anderson is super excited about it”.
Jorge’s partner at Black House, Ed Soares also commented on the doubt about Anderson’s future on a chat with TATAME.
“I still don’t know, I haven’t heard anything about it… I know it will be in Brazil, but I don’t know about dates or places”, affirmed, emphasizing the importance that this rematch happens in Brazil. “Anderson asked for it… Anderson wants to fight in Brazil”.
The first meeting of Anderson Silva vs. Chael Sonnen took place in August of 2010 where we saw Chael Sonnen on his way to delivering Silva’s first loss inside the UFC until 3:10 into the final round when Anderson Silva sunk in a triangle on Chael and submitted Sonnen.
Since that fight, Chael has still been very vocal on the subject but has earned the right to rematch Siva with victories over Brian Stann and Michael Bisping.
Silva, since their first meeting has successfully defended the middleweight title two more times against Vitor Belfort and Yushin Okami.
